The 58th edition of the Kuwait Handball Premier League will kick off tomorrow, Tuesday, with two matches at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Defending champions Kuwait SC will face Al-Nasr, while Qadsia take on Burgan.

This season introduces a new rule allowing each club to sign three foreign players, with only two permitted on the court at the same time. The Kuwaiti Handball Association stated that this move aims to raise competitiveness and overall league standards.

Association official Mishaal Al-Qabandi noted that the new system could open the door for other clubs to challenge Kuwait SC’s dominance if they achieve the right balance of foreign signings, quality coaching staff, and strong club support.

Burgan’s handball director, Abdulaziz Najeeb, emphasized that the increase in foreign players will benefit Kuwaiti players by allowing them to train and compete alongside international talent. Burgan, last season’s runner-up, now aims to compete for the league title.

The new format features eight teams in the Premier League, played over three stages (home-away-home), with promotion and relegation rules designed to intensify competition between the top and first divisions.

Kuwait SC currently holds the record with 15 league titles and has won the championship for the past 12 consecutive seasons.
