The Kuwait Handball Association announced on Wednesday that the Arab Handball Federation has approved Kuwait as the host for the 10th Arab Men’s Handball Championship, which will take place from May 4 to 12, 2025, coinciding with the International Handball Federation Week.
The Technical Director of the Kuwait Handball National Teams, Faisal Saywan, stated in a phone call with KUNA that this tournament serves as a preparation for the Arab teams looking to improve their performance in preparation for the 2026 Asian Handball Championship. Specifically, the preparation will focus on the Kuwait national team, which aims to go far in both the Arab Cup and the upcoming Asian Cup.
He added that the atmosphere in Kuwait will be ideal for hosting the tournament, as the country has all the necessary resources to successfully organize such sports events, as demonstrated in the recent Gulf Cup and other major events. He is hopeful that Kuwait can win the championship and delight the fans, boosting the morale of the national team ahead of the Asian competition.
For his part, the Treasurer of the Kuwait Handball Association, Khaled Taleb, mentioned in a similar phone call that the Federation decided to submit the hosting bid for the Arab Championship, particularly after the national team’s commendable performance in the recent World Cup. He noted that the officials in the Kuwait Handball Association are pleased with the approval to host the tournament in Kuwait, as it serves to raise the country’s profile and demonstrate its ability to organize such prestigious sporting events.
He pointed out that the championship will feature top-level teams such as Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Bahrain, and several other Arab nations, all of which possess outstanding players and coaching staffs, adding intensity and fierce competition to the tournament. He emphasized that the Kuwait national team is fully prepared and ready for the event.
Taleb also confirmed that the Kuwait Handball Association is in the process of hiring a new coach for the national team, which will allow the coach to closely assess the players and understand their dynamics before the upcoming Asian Championship. This step is crucial as the Federation strives to elevate the national team to the highest level of performance.
The Arab Handball Federation was established in 1975, with its headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and includes 16 member federations from the Arab world.
